Today we are going to journey down the rabbit hole on my previous idea of creating blogs to use within class. I Love Love LOVE projects! (I know I'm Mad as a Hatter). To incorporate my first idea Re Cap: Creating a blog and posting a question then having students Vlog about it on a private YouTube channel.
I want to mix the two together ,the blogging idea and projects, by creating Blogjects. I want to be an English teacher some day so of course there will be many of reading assignments but as teacher you also have to check to see if they understand the reading or are even reading the book. One of the most famous difficult reading is Scarlet Letter. Even I had trouble getting through each chapter. But my Blogject would consist of the post "I will split students within groups. Then choose modern day Common High School Groups like ones in movies and tv shows ( I will assign you a group)" . Then Students must Vlog and reenact short video version within 5:00 mins on the private YouTube channel . Just so that they understand at least the basic story line and so they get to know their classmates better.
My English Professor did this with us for Hamlet. To reenact a scene but it was for a grade. It was to see who paid attention during the reading and the video clips that were shown to better understand the reading. I think it is a good idea and some of the skits you get are funny but it shows that they understand the material being given to them.
ReplyDeleteMy English teachers had us do this all the time. We did it for Romeo and Juliet, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and the Scarlett Letter. I always thought it was a fun activity- even though it was hard at times. If you made it a regular activity, I think students could become very proficient with technology and the assignments would get easier over time.
ReplyDeleteLove your "blogject" idea with the video about the story line! This would of defiantly helped me when I was in high school! It would of made English way more fun my Junior year.
ReplyDeleteI like using videos along with writing. Some students are not that good at writing and you can be extremely creative with an YouTube video.
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of using a vlog to teach students. That sounds like a lot of fun. You are pretty creative with your "blogject".
ReplyDeleteI think this is such a fun idea! In high school we had to do a project over Hamlet. Our project was to create a 10 minute video summary of the entire book. It was a lot of fun and we got to dress up like the characters from the story. I think this project helps students better understand what they are reading.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of introducing more new technology along with the blogs. And I know when I was a kid, I liked making short movies with my friends. This could be the same general idea.
ReplyDeleteHaving fun while teaching is very important! You have to love what you do and I think your passion is the best part of your ideas!
ReplyDeleteUsing a vlog with your lessons would be a great idea for students to be creative with their video responses.
ReplyDeleteI love how you want to put a modern spin on things like this because I think that it would help the students relate to the stories better. I also like the name of your idea "Blogjects". It's so creative!
ReplyDeleteThat is a really cute and fun idea. Would you give the students class time to separate into their groups and find their own space to film the video? Some students may not be able to video themselves at home if they do not have a camera, video camera, smartphone, or laptop with webcam capabilities. Also with the students being in groups if they did this as an out of class thing would all of the students be able to find an appropriate time for all group members to go meet at another student's house?
ReplyDeleteI like your idea , and I also like you have a set time on the video. With the video and blogs you are using good technology.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of having the students get into groups to help each other understand the concept better!

ReplyDeleteI like the blogject! That is a good creative idea.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea for reenacting scenes from the book! Not only will it help them to better understand the book, but it will make it fun, in turn make the students exicted to read and do their project.
ReplyDeleteSounds fun! I like the idea of using videos.
